RIM wants to refocus on the business market

The Canadian company announced late last week, quarterly earnings down sharply and a reshuffle of its management and the comprehensive review of its strategy. The BlackBerry maker is endless to see sales decline. Revenues for the fourth quarter 2011 was indeed established at $ 4.2 billion, down 23% year on year, and BlackBerry sales were limited to 11.1 million units, or 21% from the prior quarter. Catastrophic results when we know that this period included Christmas. So, RIM has seen its annual net profit fell to 1.16 billion U.S. dollars against 3.4 billion a year earlier. The last quarter, ended in late February, was particularly difficult for RIM, which reported a net loss of $ 125 million.

The lack of fierce competition from Android smart phones and the iPhone that greatly reduces the market share of BlackBerry, including the release of the new BlackBerry OS 10 is still pending. The manufacturer was unable to renew itself in the highly public, where it had cardboard in 2010 with the Curve 8520, and pet teens. Not to mention the giant failure suffered by users of BlackBerry service last October. Finally, note the commercial failure of the tablet playbook, launched a year ago, and whose sales leveled off at approximately 500,000 units despite extensive promotions. So RIM has questions, and analyzes all strategic opportunities that may be available to it, such as partnerships, joint ventures or the sale of licenses, which could eventually allow for other manufacturers to use the BlackBerry platform. Moreover, some analysts have raised the abandonment of BlackBerry smart phones to the general public, although the company has clearly denied the "rumor".
